1856 Begins work at the architectural office of G.E. Street, leaving after a year
1857 Helps found the Oxford and Cambridge Magazine
1857 Works with Rossetti, Burne-Jones and others on the Oxford Union fresco
1858 Publishes Defence of Guenevere and Other Poems
1859 Marries Jane Burden and commissions Red House from Philip Webb
1860 Moves into Red House
1861 First child - Jenny - born, and Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. is set up
1865 Leaves Red House to live 'above shop' in Queen Square, Bloomsbury
1871 Travels to Iceland
1873 Visits Northern Italy and makes second trip to Iceland
1876 Becomes Treasurer of the Eastern Question Association
1877 Founds, with Webb, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings
1883 Joins the Democratic Federation as a socialist
